The Invasion of Meeriad The past few months had been bizarre. Weather patterns had begun changing, animal behavior seemed slightly odd, and astronomers just spotted a new moon. But it was just one of those things--people were fascinated for a few weeks then went back to their daily grind. High in the skies of Meeriad, above Callice, two F/A22 fighter jets patrolled, as usual. What was unusual was the mass of black specks in the distance above them and far to the west. Some radio traffic occurred. The specks continuously grew larger... No, closer. They were coming closer, very quickly. Colonel Terrence Wilson was the pilot of one of these F/A22s. He's the one who died as energy weapon fire ripped through his hull. The other pilot was Lieutenant Alex Dean. He's the one who survived. A lapse of judgment put him head on with the attackers, firing the 20mm minigun on his nose in retaliation. As he was hit by energy weapon fire, however, he ejected. Strange-looking, sleek, black vessels tore past him, many nearly hitting him. Base knew they lost their men... but they didn't know to what. John Gibson now sits in Zanardio watching football... for whatever reason. Megan looks bored. Tom is playing Unreal Tournament 2004 on John's computer. The 5.1 Dolby Surround speaker setup emits the "breaking news" music as they cut away from football. John hums along with it. TV: Breaking news... John: Aww, did somebody's widdle cat get stuck in a tree? Megan: They were about to score a frickin' touchdown, too. Their talking has drowned out part of the broadcast. TV: --invaders have so far swiftly attacked military bases and departed. Incidents around the world count six already. There has been no official casualty count. A silence befalls the room as the news reporter repeats the exact same thing several times. John: Okay, think we should do something about it? Megan: Probably. I'll call Chris, you get Jake. They pull out their respective cell phones and begin dialing. Within an hour, three attacks from above had been thwarted. It seems their plans were flawed and their attacks weren't timed well enough. However, four other military bases had fallen--yet, the attacks ceased for some time. The sky buzzes with as many fighter jets as the world's militaries can muster. Four hours later, a stream of yellow matter pours down from the skies, ripping through planes and into Callice. They were attacking from space... nothing could be done. | Stasis Archer Bio-Shell Archer Banned (Spamming) Immortal 1/25/2006 11:57:25 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 1308 |
RE: The Invasion of Meeriad In a small bar on the corner, men were huddled around the TV watching the unfolding events. The TV began crackling as it was beginning to lose it's reception. The bartender whacked the side of the TV as the news reporter continued. Around the reporter were the smoldering remains of buildings, and citizens wandering around aimlessly. The reporter goes silent as he looks up to the sky. News reporter: It seems as if rather large, cylindrical objects are plummeting down from the sky..I-I can't really make out what they are, bu-- He is cut off as one of them buries itself in the ground near him, knocking him off his feet, and the camera fell to the ground, but kept airing. The silver, cylindrical object opened, and creatures-- definitely not from Meeriad--began pouring out. With their weapons shouldered, energy rounds ripped through civilians and buildings alike. Just then, the channel flickered, and went to a snowy screen. A loud blast was heard outside the bar, as the group of people turned and looked out the large bay window, rounds began shredding through the building. Screaming in terror, the men started to scatter, but to avail. The only one remaining was the bartender, who was hiding behind the bartop with his mossy. Two of the unknown creatures stepped into the bar. The bartender popped out and let off a round. One of the creatures fell, but the other one promptly finished off the bartender. Back in Sehkmet, Jake had watched the same thing on the TV. When the channel went out, he grabbed his phone off the wall and dialed John's number. Silence. The phone lines were down. Just then, the lights and all the power in the Inn went out. There was an ominous silence. Jake grabbed his SG552 out of the closet, and went down to his basement. He locked himself down there. He tried to start up the backup generator, but it refused to start. The only thing keeping the basement lit was the light shining in through a small window. He unlocked his large gunsafe, and began loading everything he had. He was crouched in a corner, surrounded by weapons, as the light int he basement began to fade. He lit a candle for light, then glared out the window. There we no clouds blocking the sunlight- but it was a large ship. It seemed to never end in size, and from it rained more of those silver pods. | Jake Conner 3rd in command of SG&C Mercenary Immortal 1/26/2006 12:23:09 AM Level: 19 Experience: 31340 Total Posts: 1088 |
RE: The Invasion of Meeriad As the TV station goes dead, John turns slowly to Megan. John: ...Megan. Megan: ...John. John: Those are the things... Taspin. About six months ago. There are crashes heard outside and the ground rumbles. Gunfire is heard. John runs over to the window and looks out between the blinds. Several houses have barricaded their front yards and several roads and begun holding down their respective forts with belt-fed weapons as the aliens begin landing in Legivve. John: Looks like they diverted their attention from Callice. LET'S GET THE GUNS-- A window shatters as a bolt of energy flies through it. John draws his M8045 from its Fobus paddle holster with a satisfying plasticy sound and begins slowing the aliens' progress while Megan gets the rifles out. Tom, of course, always has his XM15 strapped to his chest. He rushes to another window and begins shooting. As John reaches slide lock, he turns and runs to the computer and hits the power button. Returning to the window, he has already reloaded and continues shooting. Megan runs down the stairs with two duffle bags full of guns and magazines and drops them between Tom and John. She grabs her F2000 from the bag and a few magazines, stuffing them into her pockets. Megan: We need to get out of here before they start bombing us! Tom grabs the ammo bag and slings it on his shoulder while John does the same with the gun bag. He holsters his M8045 and pulls his already-loaded P90 from the bag. Tom and Megan run out of the house, a continuous stream of fire keeping the invaders at bay while John grabs his Jeep keys. Oddly, he runs over to his computer, rips off the side cover, pulls out the entire hard drive tray, pockets it, and runs out to catch them. Down the road, behind a barricade of sandbags, a neighbor lays down fire from an M240B to help the mercenaries out. | Stasis Archer Bio-Shell Archer Banned (Spamming) Immortal 1/26/2006 12:54:18 AM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 1308 |
RE: The Invasion of Meeriad Along the road, dozens of Furry Trios decked out with various 7.62mm belt-fed machine guns and a couple .50 caliber M2s are sacrificing themselves to slow down the invasion ground force. John, Tom, and Megan zip by in a Jeep. A Wolf gives a curt wave to them, face vibrating on the stock of his red-hot HK21E. The Trios are up to their ankles in brass. Tom: I guess those guys are sort of on our side for now. John: Good thing. Up ahead on the road, they see a couple peculiar-looking tanks being dropped off with a platoon of alien soldiers. John's eyes widen. He quickly turns the Jeep off the road and heads into the nearby woods, planning to go to the mountains where his parents live until they don't see this no more. Tom: Anybody else a little disturbed? Megan: Yeah. John: Just a little. John's knuckles are white. | Tom Fender Member of SG&C Mercenary Not Banned (For conforming.) RE: The Invasion of Meeriad As they enter the woods, John looks in his rearview mirror to see an old pickup truck--filled to the brim with Furry Trios--barrelling down the road toward the tanks. It rams one and detonates, the resulting explosion tearing one tank to pieces and heavily damaging another, putting it out of commission. John: Nobody ever said those things were smart, but dang I'm glad they're on our side this time. John eyes his cell phone sitting in a tray on the center console. He soon grabs it and begins dialing. John: ...Jango! Jango: JOHN! John: We need you in the bugout place. Jango: If I can shake these fighters I'll be on it! Bye! Jango hangs up. John: Phones aren't completely out, but... Crud... Jango's in trouble. Megan: What kind of trouble? John: Alien fighters are trying to take him out, I guess. Megan: He'll pull through. Tom and Megan hear the Jeep's engine revving suddenly and repeatedly. Tom looks down and sees John's tapping his foot on the accelerator. Tom: John-- John: Sorry. The sound of explosions and gunfire has faded as they grow further away from civilization. A fearful silence falls over the interior of the vehicle. John's grip on the steering wheel has loosened, but not by much. The sound of rushing air outside the car as it moves and bumping along the dirt road is the only thing heard for what seems like hours, but is only about five minutes. John: Tom, throw some John Mayer in or something. Tom reaches for the bag of CDs on the floorboard and rummages through it before pulling out a Memorex CD-R marked JM Cliff: We were expecting you earlier. You had us worried. John: I assume you know all about what's going on. Cliff: Yep, and we've got canned food and water for a year in the basement. John: We brought the guns and ammo, and we've got more on the way. He'll be a few hours. Tara, John's mother: What about, uh, Chris? John: I doubt our new friends are too worried about a barn in a large, open field right now. We'll go get him as soon as our plane gets here. Cliff: And Jake? John: Too far away. He probably bugged out already. Besides, he has enough guns and ammo over there to hold down the fort indefinitely. We can only hope he doesn't get bombed. After everything has been unloaded, they all go inside and lock the doors and windows. Cliff: I thought about putting up the hurricane shutters, but I get the feeling that wouldn't really do much. He laughs nervously. | John Gibson 2nd In Command of SG&C Mercenary Immortal 1/26/2006 12:08:58 PM Level: 19 Experience: 31580 Total Posts: 442 |
RE: The Invasion of Meeriad Huddled in his basement, Jake's cellphone starts ringing. He let's it ring a few times before he lets his guard down and answers it. Jake: Uh..Hello? Jango: JAKE, Where are you?! Jake: ..Locked down in my basement. Jango: The air looks clear for the time being, I'm coming to get you. We're heading to Cliff's house. The others are already there. Jake: Alright, make it quick. Things are getting ugly 'round here. Jango: I'll try t-- The phone disconnects. Jake checks his phone and sees that his battery is dead. He rushes up the basement steps, and prys the planks off the door. He starts making many trips back and forth, grabbing as many guns and ammo as he can. A while later, rounds start ripping through the streets, taking down a large portion of the aliens. The Sky Wolf lands directly outside the Inn's door. The loading ramp comes down from the Sky Wold. Without exchanging words, Jango and Jake rush to load everything on the ship, occasionally letting off a few rounds at oncoming aliens. Once it's all loaded, they rush up the ramp and get airborn. Not too long after they're airborn, several more of the silver pods crash down, one crashes straight through Jake's Inn. The Sky Wolf heads full throttle towards the cabin. Not too long later, two more of the alien ships begin to tail them. Jake: You ever fix those missile pods? Jango: ..Yeah. Jake: USE THEM. Jango pulls the throttle way down on the Sky Wolf, so that they're now behind the alien ships. Several missiles launch out of the Sky Wolf, and tear into the hull of the two enemy ships. They went down in flames. Jango pointed off in the distance. Jango: We're not too far. He pushes the throttle back up. | Jake Conner 3rd in command of SG&C Mercenary Immortal 1/26/2006 5:38:11 PM Level: 19 Experience: 31340 Total Posts: 1088 |
RE: The Invasion of Meeriad The capital ship hovering ominously above Callice, raining bomb after bomb, is suddenly hit with an enormous blast from space. RE: The Invasion of Meeriad 2:45 PM Chris yawns and looks at his alarm clock. He lazily rolls over and goes back to sleep. 3:57 PM Chris finally groans and says to himself that he probably should get up sometime today. Luckily he had left all the horses out in the pasture to graze all night, so that he could sleep in. He lazily gets out of bed and goes to his closet. There are about 30 of the same exact outfit in there. He rubs his b|ood shot eyes and picks out one, and puts it back. He picks out another one and puts it back too. He takes out the third one and looks it over... And puts it on. 4:15 PM Chris walks outside with a cup of coffee in his hand and walks to the barn. He gets out a bucket and some feed and shakes it. All the horses in the pasture wander over to the fence and look at him expectantly. He walks in and get's out the latest addition to the herd, Baily, and takes him in and tacks him up. The two of them head out on a trail ride. As they are wondering across the huge field behind Chris's house. Chris hears an explosion way off in the distance. He looks up, as he yawns, and stopps half-way in the yawn. Up in the atmosphere he sees what's left of a huge ship. Hundreds of silver pods are raining down onto the surface of the earth. Luckily none of them are yet coming to Hirma, but Chris doesn't give them the chance. He gallops back to the pasture and opens the gate, herding all the horses out. He quickly jumps off Baily and untacks him and runs him off with the rest of the loose herd. He wishes them luck, and runs back to his house. He climbs up the ladder into his bedroom and pulls the matress out into the livingroom under his loft. He then climbs the ladder and gets out all the guns he has and tosses them down onto the bed. He then climbs back down takes the sheets from around the corners of the bed and picks up all the guns in the sheet like a gigantic santa bag. He takes it out to his jeep and crams it into the back. He runs back out to the barn and grabs weapons he has stashed in there as well and brings them back out. He starts up his Jeep and floors it, spitting dust and gravel all over the horses that were standing off behind the jeep. The horses take off in a wild run. Chris heads for the mountains. Fourteen minutes after he starts off down the road, he hollers out the window "Check!" every five seconds. | Chris Storms 1st In Command of SG&C Mercenary Immortal 1/26/2006 8:41:05 PM Level: 20 Experience: 32580 Total Posts: 1382 |
RE: The Invasion of Meeriad John and Tom are on the front covered deck of John's parents' house. They are looking up at the explosions in the sky, unsure of what is exploding and why. Their heads snap back down to the ground as they hear an engine getting closer. They step back inside and close the door, staring out a window waiting to see what it is, rifles at the ready. After an agonizing three minutes, they finally see Chris's Jeep pull into the driveway. He hops out with a sack of goodies over his shoulder and an M4 in one hand. John steps back onto the porch. John: You're alive! Chris: I thought so. John: Any trouble? They go inside. Jake closes the door and pushes the sewing machine back in front of it. Chris: Ran into an armor column on a road near the treeline. Oh, I'm outta HEAT rockets. John: How many did you take out? Chris: Only managed to get one before they started blasting me. John: How many rockets did it take? Chris: Two. Had to hit the same spot twice before there was any effect. Chris sets the sheet full of weapons and ammo onto the floor. Chris: I brought guns and ammo. Tom: Chris: Who has the .338? I have a bunch of ammo here... I don't have anything that shoots it. Jake: I do. SR8. Chris: Then take this stuff. It's heavy, man. Jake: Thanks. Jake gathers the ammo and puts it with his stash of weapons. Chris: Hey, Tara, Cliff. He nods at them. Cliff shakes his hand. Tara: Hi, Chris. Jango: I hear an engine. Tom: We expecting anybody else? John: No. Jango: Sounds big. Tom: Great. Tanks found us. John: Hopefully not yet. I'm going to go out and find out what it is and hopefully stop it before it finds this place. Anybody coming with me? Chris and Jake nod, grabbing rifles, rockets, and launchers. Tom: .... We'll hold down the fort. | Tom Fender Member of SG&C Mercenary Not Banned (For conforming.) Immortal 2/1/2006 10:22:05 PM Level: 18 Experience: 26800 Total Posts: 323 |
RE: The Invasion of Meeriad After Chris, John, and Jake leave the house, they hear about 5 bolts go across the door. Tom raises the curtain and looks out, grinning like a fool. The three turn back around and follow the sound of the tanks. After about a five minute hike, they come across two of them going down the road. The tops of them rotate back and forth scanning the roads for life forms. SGC stay back far enough to not be seen, and get behind the tanks. Chris tells the other two where he hit the last one. Jake suggests aiming more towards the top of the tanks, where the crew most likely is. They all agree to this, and load the launchers with the first round. | Chris Storms 1st In Command of SG&C Mercenary Immortal 2/1/2006 10:45:21 PM Level: 20 Experience: 32580 Total Posts: 1382 |
