Mark Knopfler One of the greatest guitar players in the world. If Chet says so, it is so. Has anyone else heard of him? He rocks... RE: Mark Knopfler I believe one of Mark's idols is Jimi Hendrix. Another one of his idols was Chet Atkins. Mark has actually worked on a lot more things than most people realize. He's produced many records, including one of Bob Dylan's albums. There are even a few country music artists who have done his songs. He's even played on some country music peoples' albums. Tina Turner even did one of Mark's songs that didn't make it on the Love Over Gold album and it became her biggest hit, I believe. Mark's even done movie scoring. Like for Local Hero, the Princess Bride, and Cal. There are some others, but I can't think of 'em right now. There was a movie my mom and dad went to see about a month ago and they said Brothers In Arms was in it. I've also read in several places that in their day, Dire Straits was the most popular band IN THE WORLD. Anyway, Marky (As Eric Clapton calls him ) is definitely one of the best guitar players. So was Chet Atkins, Eric Clapton, and Carlos Santana. I think Lindsey Buckingham (of Fleetwood Mac) should be considered one of the best, if he isn't already.
